New Year, Time For An Upgrade—The Most Affordable Cars Of 2019

With the new year comes change to a variety of areas, particularly new technology, tv series, and new vehicles (equipped with the newest technology, but probably not the newest tv series). While plenty of these can be on the pricier side due to their new release, there are still plenty of options to get a new 2019 car, truck, or SUV at an affordable price. The vehicles listed below are the absolute cheapest models of 2019, so compare cars to see what’s best for you. To note, these are the base automatic transmission versions of these cars although if you can find any of those listed in a manual transmission variant they will likely be between $500-$1000 cheaper. If you missed our 2018 list of the most affordable cars check out the link.

10. 2019 Honda Fit Approx. $23,750

Honda has always been known for its affordable cars and 2019 is no different with the Honda Fit. In terms of a complete package, the Fit has made big improvements year-over-year since its new redesign in 2018. While nothing major has changed since last year, the addition of automatic high-beam headlights is a nice touch, as is the extended cargo space. The additional room is an especially welcome feature for those struggling with the limited storage space of earlier models.

9. 2019 Chevrolet Sonic Approx. $23,320

The Chevrolet Sonic makes another appearance on our list of affordable cars again for 2019. The major change for the Sonic this year is the engine. Out with the old 1.8L engine, in with a new 1.4L turbocharged engine that now comes standard on all 2019 Chevy Sonics. One of the positive features it retains from past models is great crash-safety, so you can feel confident and safe getting into a Sonic.

8. 2019 Fiat 500 [Not Yet Released] Approx. $23,270

This year, in terms of design, there are minimal changes to the 2019 Fiat 500, although it does make it to number eight on our list. The engine, however, has changed and is equipped with a 136 HP Turbo engine. The stylish interior also makes for a fun atmosphere while driving and can even be equipped with a quasi-convertible roof for those who want a little wind in their hair.

7. 2019 Hyundai Accent Approx. $22,420

Another returning affordable car from our 2018 list, the Hyundai Accent comes in at seventh place. Although there’s almost no change from the 2018 redesign, it retains its excellent look, respectable gas mileage, and responsive steering. The 2019 version also retains excellent safety features like automated emergency braking and forward-collision warning.

6. 2019 Toyota Yaris Approx. $23,200

It would probably be a more of shock if Toyota didn’t make this list. While last year the Yaris came in a 2-door flavour, this year it changed dramatically to a 4-door sedan. In terms of the car itself though, it’s very similar to a Mazda 2, not that it’s a bad thing. The interior is comparable to Mazda’s ergonomic design and use of high-quality material which makes for a more comfortable ride and modern cabin.

5. 2019 Ford Fiesta Approx. $21,670

Sadly, this is the last year for the Fiesta—production in North America is expected to end May 2019 with Ford’s according shift in focus to producing trucks and SUVs instead of smaller fuel-efficient cars. The 2019 Fiesta ends on a good note though, with sporty, responsive handling and a comfortable, fresh interior. If you’ve always wanted a subcompact, the Fiesta is a great choice in both sedan and hatchback variants as an affordable option.

4. 2019 Kia Rio Approx. $21,490

Kia continues to surprise with its excellent quality and design, and while the base model of the Rio won’t be winning any awards, it does offer a lot of bang for your buck. With a balanced ride and handling, modern look, and comfortable cabin, the Rio is a great package for anyone on a budget.

3. 2019 Nissan Versa Approx. $21,090

While 2018 was a year of major redesigns to base models for several vehicle manufacturers, 2019 has been content to just offer minor improvements or fix issues from models of the previous year. Although this sentiment is brought to life by the Nissan Versa, it still offers an excellent drive without breaking the bank. With a smooth ride in addition to comfortable back and front seats, all passengers can be comfortable for long or short journeys.

2. 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage Approx. $20,683

Coming in at second place for the most affordable car of 2019 is the Mirage. Of course as we get further into this list, typically, the less features most of these cars will have. While the Mirage does have minimal features of note, its biggest selling point (like last year) is its outstanding fuel economy. If you’re tight on a budget, but need the extra seats, space of a sedan, and the best gas mileage possible, the Mirage is the car for you.

1. 2019 Chevrolet Spark Approx. $20,170

Yes, Chevrolet makes a return on the list as does the Spark from last year. While it can accomplish highway driving, the Spark really shines as an in-city car. The excellent visibility makes it a breeze to park, and the great fuel economy ensures you’re spending minimal time at the pump and instead cruising around the city. Although the cargo space is tight, it’s more than enough for small trips to the store and picking up groceries, and provides a simple, easy drive.

While these are the most affordable options for 2019, you can easily find less expensive options for earlier models of cars, trucks, and SUVs if you compare cars online. Which car would you choose from our list? Any you’re surprised made it? Let us know in the comments below.
